Advert for Messrs Davey & Fabian's Laundry Works
Medium: Print on paper
While rudimentary washing machines and the relatively wide application of soap had made laundry an easier task in the 19th century, scrubbing and wringing of clothes still had to be done manually. This was repetitive and backbreaking work, so those who could afford it took their dirty clothes to laundry works such as Davey & Fabian's, featured hear. Clothes would have been washed, dried and ironed before their return to the customer.
