The lyrics that complement the illustration read: "Let us join the glad throng/ That goes laughing along/ And we'll go hunting today." They are taken from a popular hunting song composed by W Wilson for the North Warwickshire Hunt.
As a result of the improvements in the railways organised foxhunting became very fashionable in the late 19th century. It was now possible for people who lived outside of traditional hunting areas to travel long distances to join in the hunt. It was especially popular with aspiring members of the middle classes.
