Advert for the 'Our Boys Library Of The World', periodical, reverse side
Medium: Print on paper
It has been estimated that some 125,000 periodicals were in production in Britain by the end of the 19th century. There were magazines devoted to issues of trade and industry, to leisure activities and the arts, and - perhaps most numerous - magazines aimed squarely at women, featuring articles about fashion and homemaking. This periodical was aimed at boys and included tales of derring-do, illustrations of national and military heroes, brainteasing puzzles and articles about sport and games.
