The Lady's Pictorial was a periodical aimed squarely at middle class women. There was a marked increase in the number and variety of periodicals produced for women of all classes during the Victorian period. The earliest magazines were primarily concerned with the domestic life, sprinkled with articles about fashion and serialised fiction. By the middle of the century, though, women's magazines also included articles on education, industry, science and social policy. Special editions such as those at Christmas and Easter would have been larger than usual and would have included ideas for Christmas recipes, gifts and stories.
