Advert For 'Fair Trade', Periodical
Medium: Print on paper
This is an advertisement for a periodical entitled Fair Trade. During the 19th century there was a 'thirst for knowledge' and a desire for self improvement. There were a number of reasons for this; there was an increasingly literate public, there was a growth in the number of people working in the professions and alongside these developments printing technology improved. Periodicals and magazines, like the one advertised here, could be produced cheaply and quickly, providing affordable entertainment for the reader as well as offering educational information on a whole range of subjects; animals and birds, children's games, fashions, politics, religions and even industry.
