Advert for W Callingham, florist
Medium: Print on paper
At the end of the 19th century, flower arranging was a very popular pasttime. It was more popularly known as 'table decorating', because this was where the majority of the flowers were displayed. A lady was judged on her flower arranging capabilities and for the variety of flowers and colours she used in her displays. On large country estates, flowers would be cut from the garden; but in cities flowers were bought from a local florist such as Callingham’s, featured on this advertisement.
