This is an advertisement for John Page and Company's coffee. Tea and coffee were popular drinks in the 19th Century especially because the bad quality of the water supply meant that it had to be boiled before it was drunk. Initially the Christian church denounced coffee as "the hellish black brew", but Pope Clement VIII enjoyed the taste so much that baptised it saying that "…coffee is so delicious it would be a pity to let the infidels have exclusive use of it." This leaflet is advertising ‘John Page & Co.’s’ French coffee.
