One of the performers on this bill is Charles Morritt, otherwise known as 'Morritt, Wonder Worker of the World' or 'The Yorkshire Conjurer'. Magicians and illusionists were very popular acts during the Victorian period. They used modern technology as well as sleight of hand to create dramatic tricks and fool their audiences. Harry Houdini was the most famous escapologist of the period, but he took a good deal of inspiration from Morritt.
