Balloon ascents and stunts were novel attractions for Victorian theatre-goers as performers attempted ever more daring and dangerous feats. This poster advertises the first appearance of Mademoiselle Stena, illustrated here in her latest creation "The Balloon". With the balloon attached to her head, she must have been a wonderful sight indeed as she floated down from the roof of the three-tiered Canterbury Theatre.
