This poster for the Eden Palace features the Sisters Melville, a popular quartet from a long-lived theatrical family. Their grandfather George Melville had been a Shakespearian actor who toured with John Richardson’s legendary troupe, while their father Andrew owned theatres across the country. Edith, Minnie, Kate and Beatrice danced, sang and put on plays. They lived in the shadows of their brothers Frederick and Walter, however, who wrote many of their productions.
