The Marble Rink and Athletics Club was situated at 143 Clapham Road. Admission to the rink cost one shilling and skates could be hired by adventurous visitors. Ice skating and roller skating became popular leisure activities during the 1870s and 1880s. This poster advertises a benefit night for AT Timewell, who would have received all the profits. Tickets for benefit nights often cost more than an average night at a music hall, but most of the performers would have given their time for free.
