This poster for the Raglan Music Hall advertises a benefit performance for Beaumont and Fletcher. Benefit shows were sometimes held as frequently as two or three times a week to provide needy performers with some financial assistance at times when ill health or other misfortune made them unable to work. Artistes in a benefit programme would not be paid, so it was usually only the most successful, such as Vesta Victoria and J P O'Connor featured here, who could afford to appear. All proceeds from the entertainment would have been donated to assist Beaumont and Fletcher. Prices of tickets, food and drink were sometimes doubled, or even trebled, to ensure a considerable amount of money was raised.
