'The Guide for the Perplexed' is a philosophical work by Moses ben Maimon, known as Maimonides (1135-1204). He was born in Cordoba, but lived most of his life in Egypt, and is regarded as the foremost Jewish philosopher of the middle ages. 'The Guide for the Perplexed' was completed in 1190 and was originally written in Arabic. This manuscript is of the Hebrew translation made by Samuel Ibn Tibbon (died c.1230). It was produced in Spain, around 1350. The text is written in a cursive Spanish hand and adorned with some two hundred illuminations, displaying mostly floral and vegetal designs in vibrant colours.
