Alnwick Gate
The town of Alnwick was the home of the Percy family - first Earls then Dukes of Northumberland - for seven centuries. Many buildings of the town bear the sign of the Percy Lion, which can be seen on this gateway. During the 18th century several of the medieval buildings were replaced by fashionable classical style buildings. This is probably Hotspur Gate, the only surviving one of four gateways along the town's defensive walls
