Alnwick from Malcolm's Cross
View of the town of Alnwick from Malcolm's Cross, a monument erected to commemorate the death of Malcolm, King of Scotland at the siege of Alnwick in 1093. First a Saxon, and then a Norman settlement, Alnwick became the home of the Percy family for over seven centuries. It is situated at a crossing of the River Aln and as can be seen in the drawing gently sprawls up the Aln Valley. The town is dominated by the castle, the seat of the Percys - first Earls and then Dukes of Northumberland.
