This miniature has usually been assumed to depict the presentation of the book to its dedicatee, Henry V as Prince of Wales. It has recently been noted, however, that the kneeling figure is perhaps too finely dressed to be the author, Thomas Hoccleve, who was a clerk, and may instead therefore represent John Mowbray, 2nd Duke of Norfolk, who died in 1432, and whose arms appear in the initial immediately below. While it has always been assumed that the kneeling figure is presenting the book to the prince, it is also possible that the prince is giving the book to Mowbray.
