The entries in the top half of this page, and most of the dates in red roman numerals, were written by a single scribe, whose last entry is that for the year 1266, when the papal legate Ottobonus came to England. There are no events recorded for 1267 and 1268, and the following entries are written in a variety of scripts, suggesting that the original annals were written between 1266 and 1268, and that the others were added piecemeal, year by year. The added entries on this page record the death of Pope Clement in 1269; the death of Boniface, archbishop of Canterbury, in 1270; the death of King Henry, in 1272; the election of Pope Gregory X in 1273 (with a footnote recording the birth of Alfonso, son of King Edward, in the same year), and the consecration of Robert de Kylwardby as archbishop of Canterbury.
