This manuscript contains several texts relating directly to Abingdon Abbey, for which it must have been made. These include a cartulary, a list of church officials, a customary (recording details of how various actions should be performed, such as the initial of a novice), a list of lands belonging to the abbey, and so on. The text on this page is a list of Abingdon Abbey's tenants, as recorded in Domesday Book, compiled in 1086. Each coloured initial starts a section beginning 'In' followed by a place-name: 'In Bertona . . .', 'In Sandford . . . ', 'In Linford . . .', 'In Appleford . . .', etc., with the name of the tenant(s) and the amounts of land occupied.
