This manuscript was originally compiled in 1380 by Thomas Walsingham, the precentor of the Benedictine abbey of St. Albans, as a record of those who had made gifts to the abbey. The six laymen are each shown with an indication of their gift: one gave the church of Wallingtone, another gave a gold chalice, a third gave a fine bell, and the other three hold charters, indicating that they gave land.
