Although the main contents of this manuscript are treatises on chess, a secular subject that might seem out of place in a Benedictine Abbey, an integral part of the volume is a liturgical calendar which was clearly meant for use at Abbotsbury Abbey, Dorset. Roughly half-way down the page, at 12 October, is an entry in red recording 'the dedication of the church of Blessed Peter, Abbotsbury'. Four lines lower down, also in red, is recorded the death of 'master Roger, abbot of this place': this refers to Roger de Brideton, who died in 1258. Another three lines lower down is the octave of the feast of the dedication.
