This series of annals have a very marked emphasis on events relating either to 'national' events (such as coronations and deaths of the kings of England), or to 'local' events concerning Dover and Canterbury. The annals were therefore clearly compiled somewhere in Kent, and the presence in this manuscript of a press-mark of Dover priory leaves no doubt as to precisely where. This page contains the annals for the years 1143 to 1177. The last entry of the first column, for example, records the dedication of the church of St. Martin's, Dover. The right-hand column includes the consecration and martyrdom of St. Thomas Becket, an earthquake in England, the election of a prior of Dover, and so on.
