William of Malmesbury (c. 1095 - c. 1143) was a monk and the librarian of Malmesbury Abbey. This text, an ecclesiastical history of England from the arrival of St. Augustine in 597 AD, down to 1125, when he wrote it, owes much to the writings of Bede for the early period, but depends on first-hand knowledge and hearsay for events of his own lifetime. It is a source from which many later writers on the history of England have drawn.
