This is a single leaf, apparently cut from a Missal belonging to the church at Pirton, Worcestershire: in the upper margin is an inscription: 'Missale parochie de Pirton' (Missal of the parish of Pirton). The front of the leaf has a miniature of the Crucifixion: Christ hangs lifeless on the Cross; to the left the Virgin Mary wrings her hands in anguish, and to the right St. John the Evangelist puts his hand to his face in a typical medieval gesture of sorrow. The technique used, a drawing in brown ink, coloured with washes of red and green, is typical of English manuscripts.
