In medieval copies of the Bible each book would be preceded by one or more prologues, commonly ascribed to St. Jerome. The first page of this manuscript has a prologue, written widely spaced on alternate lines, to allow for an interlinear gloss in smaller script. A list of books at the end of the volume allows us to determine that it comes from the Augustinian priory of the Virgin Mary, Bridlington (Yorkshire). At the top of the text a later owner has written a title over an erasure, perhaps an ownership inscription of Bridlington.
