This manuscript consists of two parts: the first is a chronicle by William of Malmesbury (died 1143); and the second is a series of annals--with a particular emphasis on Bury St. Edmunds--as far as the year 1212, with subsequent additions. The manuscript was therefore almost certainly written at Bury in 1212. The two entries in red on this page refer to Bede: the annal for the year 714 records that he wrote a History of the English, down to Coelwulf, King of Northumbria, who became a monk of Lindisfarne in 738, and died in 764. The annal for 723 records Bede's Chronicle from the Creation to 734, the year before his death.
