The saints commemorated in the calendar and litany of this Psalter point without doubt to its having been made for an Augustinian house in East Anglia, and this house is very likely to have been Barnwell Priory, on the outskirts of Cambridge. Psalm 97 begins 'Sing to the Lord a new canticle: because he hath done wonderful things' and is sometimes illustrated by a scene of the Annunciation to the Shepherds, because 'wonderful things' was interpreted as referring to the birth of Christ.
