Baldric (c.1045-1130), Archbishop of Dol in Brittany, wrote a history of Jerusalem which is of particular interest for its contemporary account of the First Crusade. In this manuscript, owned in the Middle Ages by Reading Abbey in Berkshire, it is accompanied by Solinus's 'Collection of Memorable Things', which in part deals with the remarkable features of foreign lands. Despite the very plain red initial 'B', this manuscript represents a high quality of book-production with its clear, high grade script, and ample margins.
