This Gospel Book was written on the Continent in the 10th century, but reached England fairly soon thereafter, as shown by textual additions ranging in date from the 10th to the 15th century, which relate to Thorney Abbey, in the Fenlands between Peterborough and Wisbech. This is one of the pages filled to overflowing with names relating to Thorney. Clearly they were added in varying inks by different scribes and at different dates. The very first name at the top is Robert 'de huntedona' i.e. of Huntingdon, about 30 miles due south of Thorney.
