This little Psalter and hymn-book (originally two separate manuscripts) has an ownership inscription of the Augustinian Canonesses of Campsey Ashe, a few miles east of Wickham Market, between Saxmundham and Ipswich, in Suffolk. The Psalter was written within a few decades of the founding of the Priory c.1195, so it may have belonged to one of the founding nuns. The inscription in French in the upper margin of this page states 'This book belongs to the Convent of Campsey' (Cest liv(er)e est a con(ve)nt de Ca(m)pisse). Below is the start of the hymn-book. This leaf was abandoned unfinished, however, before the decorated initials were executed. The hymn-book starts again on the following leaf.
