Paul The Deacon (720-797?) wrote historical and other works which were widely read in the Middle Ages. Of these, his 'Roman History' is a version of a 4th-century work by Eutropius, which Paul continued up to the time of the emperor Justinian, who died in 565. This copy has been identified in the catalogue of the medieval library of St. Paul's cathedral, but there are no explicit marks of ownership. The bright yellow and red colour-combination of this initial 'P' is unusual in English manuscripts, but are not unusual in Spanish ones.
