This manuscript was made at the Benedictine Abbey at St. Albans, and the Illuminated initial introduces the music sung at Mass on one of its most important feast days: the Invention of the Relics of St. Alban. This is the only piece of music in the volume that has neumes above the lines of writing, rather than on four-line staves.
