This is a list of Justices of the Peace for Lancashire, the names of individuals who act as agents of central government for a locality. It forms part of an atlas that belonged to William Cecil Lord Burghley, Elizabeth I’s Secretary of State. Lord Burghley used this atlas to illustrate domestic matters. The list is sworn 14, 15 Nov. 1592, being signed "Ed. Phytton" who may be Sir Edward Fitton, the younger, father of Mary Fitton, who has been supposed to be the dark lady of Shakespeare's sonnets. The list accompanies a map of the same county.
