Some Classical authors such as Terence (d. 159 BC), the Roman writer of comedies, were widely known and studied during the Middle Ages. This copy of his works, written on parchment of mediocre quality, dirtied and worn through use, was owned by the library of Dover Priory. In the lower margin is the library press-mark ':J: III:' with a '16' in the curve of the 'J', and below this is a note of the author and the secundo folio (recording the first words of this very page).
