In a rather different style to the other initials in the volume is that which introduces Sermon 51. Closer inspection reveals that this is the first page of a quire, written by a different scribe from the preceding quires. The style of the first scribe and his initials is more 'Romanesque', while those from here to the end are more 'gothic'. It is not certain whether each scribe executed his own initials, whether each had his own assistant to do so, or whether there was a hiatus in the production of the manuscript, resulting in a change of style at this point.
