The text of this compendium was compiled by the Franciscan Peter de Aureolis, Archbishop of Aix (1321-1322). This copy has a detailed flyleaf inscription, dated 6 February 1422, written by Philip Repington (d.1424), Bishop of Lincoln (1404-1419), stating that the manuscript was intended for the new library at Lincoln, but was to be reserved for Richard Frisby, clerk, canon, and prebendary of Milton (between Lincoln and Worksop), during his lifetime. Frisby is known to have died before 1425, so he was presumably elderly when he received the book, and Repington knew that he would not have it for long.
