A view of Town Acton, Middlesex

Town Acton was a small Middlesex settlement in the early 18th century (1,425 inhabitants by 1801). Set around St Mary's parish church on the road heading west out of London, this quiet, rural place was to change a great deal with the building of new railway links to central London in the late 19th century. This effectively made the town into a suburb, and increased the population.
