View of a nursery house belonging to the Ashe family and long patronised by Horace Walpole, who had a mansion nearby. The Ashes had settled in Twickenham when Sir Joseph Ashe MP bought an estate here in 1657 and became involved in the local parish. His grandson Charles, married into the Walpole family, making him the uncle by marriage of Horace Walpole.
