Artist: Roberts, Thomas Sautelle
Medium: Aquatint, coloured
View near Thomastown, County Kildare, in eastern Ireland. The town, founded by the Norman Thomas FitzAnthony in c.1200, sits on the River Nore and has always been an important river trading centre. The town’s position at the head of the 87 mile river meant that it was also a strategic military station. The river Nore rises in County Tipperary and flows east and south until it reaches the tide at the village of Inistioge. The Nore valley is noted for its beautiful landscape as can be seen from this aquatint by Thomas Sautelle Roberts.
