View of Benton Castle near Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. Situated on a promontory above the River Cleddau, the castle was built in the 13th century and has been attributed to the de la Roche family. It was a small enclosed castle with two round towers linked by a curtain wall. Although one of the towers is often though to be a keep because it is capped by a parapet and has a latrine turret it is in fact too small to have been used for this purpose. There was no staircase in the tower and the floors would have been connected by ladders.
