View of Crummock water in Cumbria, Northern England. W. F. Topham in his book ‘The lakes of England’ published in 1869 wrote the following description of the lake, “Crumock water is distant about three quarters of a mile from Buttermere, and nearly three miles in length, and three quarters of a mile in breadth ; it is situated between the lofty mountains of Melbreak and Grassmoor, and contains three or four small islands… [it] is less celebrated among the lakes than its peculiarities and beauties appear to deserve. From stations on its rocky and elevated shores the most striking views are obtained of the noble surrounding mountains…”.
