View of a cottage in Weston, near Letchworth, North Hertfordshire. The village of Weston is situated two miles from Baldock in the Borth of the county, close to the important Roman Road known as the Great North road or Ermine Street. During the Roman occupation it was one of the largest settlements in the county and would have been an important trading centre. The village appears in the Domesday Book as ‘Westone’ and is part of the estate belonging to the Norman William de Ow.
