View of ancient woodland called Caen Wood, as seen from Hampstead Heath. During the time of the Roman invasion this area was swathed in woodland, and would later become known as the Forest of Middlesex. It was not cleared until the 13th century and only small portions of the original, natural forest have been preserved, such as this one at Caen Wood.
