Corve Street, Ludlow

Artist: Wright, J

Medium: Aquatint, coloured

Date: 1812

Shelfmark: Ktop XXXVI

Item number: 15-a

Genre: Topographical Print

The town of Ludlow sits on a hilltop, overlooked by its Ludlow Castle. Lower Corve Street is still full of timber-framed buildings and but as the hill climbs, the houses become stately Georgian brick. In the background is St Laurence's church, the largest parish church in Shropshire, being 203 feet long and 135 feet tall. Much of this church dates from the 15th century although small parts of it survive from the 14th century.
