View of Conway (or Conwy) Castle in North Wales. The entrance to the castle would originally have been across a large stepped stone ramp which approached a drawbridge across a large moat which would have been guarded by portcullis. Conwy was divided into 2 separate wards but a thick cross wall. The Inner ward was the heart of the castle and contained the private apartments of the King and Queen. When built the castle would have been completely covered in a white limewash and would have been a magnificent sight.
