View of the unusual Chinese dairy in the grounds of Woburn abbey in Bedfordshire. Formerly a Cistercian abbey founded in 1145, the estate was granted to the earls of Bedford after the dissolution of monastic houses in the 16th century. The dairy was designed by architect Henry Holland in a mock-oriental style. As can be seen in the picture, it has a polygonal wooden pagoda-type roof. The furnishings and fittings inside were in the fashionable Chinese style, similar to Brighton Pavilion.
