View of Duncannon Fort in Waterford harbour, County Wexford, Ireland. This star shaped fort was built in 1588 to defend the coast from an expected invasion by the Spanish Armada. Because of it’s strategic position, with views of Waterford estuary, Hook head and Passage east, the fort was once described as the ‘Second Port of the Realm’. The fort was built on the remains of a Celtic fort and a Norman Castle.
