Cadoxton church is situated on the bank of a stream near to the village common. A church existed at Cadoxton as early as the 12th century, dedicated to St. Cadoc. The church was modified in the 15th century when the nave was lengthened and the tower added. The village of Cadoxton grew up around the church and by the 19th century, with the advent of the thriving coal industry, it had developed as a town accomodating the mine, railway and dock workers.
