Drawing of an architectural detail from St Mary the Virgin's Church, in Gillingham village in Kent. This is a Norman circular stone font. The exterior of the font has decorative patterns carved into the stone. At the top is a band of interlocking zeds. The middle is decorated with 10 Romanesque arches on shafts. Around the bottom is a chevron or zigzag design, a typical Norman pattern.
