Today Frognal Grove is a housing estate which lies to west of Hampstead High Street. It was originally a Georgian mansion designed by Henry Flitcroft for himself and finished in 1750. It was famous for its impressive avenue of lime trees leading up to the entrance of the house. After Flitcroft's death, the house was let to Edward Montague, who was a Master of Chancery. It acquired the name Montague House. The artist is Maria Catherine Prestel (1747-94)
