In 1757, Horace Walpole established a printing press on his estate at Strawberry Hill in order to print quality editions of the classics, as well as his own writings and those of friends. The first printing house had to be destroyed when the house was extended in the 1760s. As can be seen in the picture, the printing house does not have the Gothic features of the main house. Nevertheless it was Walpole's intellectual and literary headquarter.
